In this article about using lean concepts on transportation planning, I especially liked the idea of pop-up meetings.
In Ann Arbor the Downtown Street Framework Plan team decided to try something new to reach out to the people who are using their streets. Instead of inviting people to a planning meeting, they went out to the streets with their diagrams and charts and used Twitter to notify people of their next location. They were able to speak to 250 people over a 4.5 hour time period. Pretty impressive.
I’ve posted before that some elected officials have conducted listening sessions on public transit buses. Another way of getting out to the people.
