How do you keep public transit going?
Some may think fares need to be increased. Others say that cutting service is necessary.
Mark Aesch had a different idea. The Atlantic Cities, in a July 18 article, focused on Aesch’s plan that revitalized transit in the Rochester, NY area.
Aesch believes that the “best way to raise both ridership and revenue is by improving the transit experience.”
What is also necessary, according to Aesch, is identifying new business partners (colleges, apartment complexes, shopping centers) and asking for them to help fund public transportation.
Challenging? You bet. But it’s a great example to follow.
