With the beginning of the school year comes a dramatic increase in traffic. And with that comes an increase in close calls. I see them every day.
In a suburb of Philadelphia police went undercover to catch motorists who did not follow the law in regards to pedestrians crossing the street. They also ticketed pedestrians who did not follow the law.
Safety works both ways.
I’m betting that 90% of the motorists don’t know that they are not supposed to drive forward until the pedestrian has totally exited the roadway. Every day I see cars moving forward immediately after the pedestrian has passed their vehicle and sometimes it’s way too close for comfort.
And pedestrians can be ticketed if they don’t cross at a crosswalk. You know we see that every day too.
We all need to work together to make our streets safer for those who want to walk or bicycle.
