The first electric car charging station in the Syracuse area recently was installed at the Chili’s restaurant in DeWitt.
According to the article on syracuse.com the plan is to install at least 22 others in the Central New York area.
A 2 hour charge while you’re eating at Chili’s might get a Chevy Volt an additional 5 – 7 miles to get you home. A 4-6 hour charge will get you about 35 miles.
I’m guessing most people will be charging at their home overnight and are not planning to drive long distances. The system is far from working for a person who needs to drive long distances. But if I was still commuting to Syracuse from Cortland every day I would definitely look into one. Charging overnight in my garage could get me easily to work and back. Never having to buy gas? Now that would be priceless!
