Charge NY

Governor Cuomo is encouraging electric vehicle use by building at least 360 electric charging stations throughout New York State.

The long-term goal is to have 3,000 charging stations across the state and more than 40,000 electric vehicles on the road.

Of course, no one will buy an electric vehicle unless there are convenient places to recharge it. But it’s not a perfect solution. Electricity currently is generated mostly from coal and natural gas and we are well aware of the issues there.

The one thing I don’t understand is why they are starting this initiative in the New York City area. That area is well served by mass transit. Electric vehicles I would think would be appealing to those who travel 30 miles or so to work. If I still worked in Syracuse I would buy an electric vehicle in a heartbeat. I could get to work and home and charge the vehicle overnight.

What do you think? Good idea?
