Back in the day, I remember every meeting at the newspaper where I worked lasted at least an hour and many meetings lasted much longer. Too many people who liked to hear themselves speak is what we always said.
Then we went to standing meetings. That shortened up those meetings quite a bit. Everyone was hovered around an editor’s desk out in the open in the middle of the newsroom. People got tired of standing. They wanted to get back to their seats.
The new thing this year is a walking meeting.
There’s so much emphasis about health these days and how sitting is the new smoking, so it seems a natural progression to get us moving while we work, not just before or after work.
So now that the weather is improving, why not have some of your meetings while you walk around the block? Sounds like a great idea to me.
P.S. If you start this at your workplace, drop me a line and let me know.
