CarFit is a unique program that could make a difference to an older driver and their loved ones. It is a program which offers older adults the opportunity to check how their personal cars “fit” them.
Along with our Seven Valleys Health Coalition’s Americorps volunteer, I attended training yesterday to become a CarFit coordinator. We will be able to lead older drivers through a 12 point checklist with their vehicle, recommend car adustments and adaptations and offer resources that could make their cars “fit” better and enhance their safety. The process takes about 15 – 20 minutes.
The program was developed through collaboration among the American Society on Aging, AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
We are looking to start the program here in Cortland this summer so stay tuned for more information.
