Small Town, Medium Bus, Large Smile

I grew up in an urban area, where the bus drivers were too busy dealing with hordes of noncompliant passengers and navigating accordion double-buses around sharp curves to do much smiling. So I was delighted when I stepped onto a Cortland Transit bus for the first time to a huge grin and a “Good afternoon!”

It doesn’t take much to make my day – a bit of sunlight, an oatmeal cookie, a smile. Public transportation is cheap, convenient, and accessible. I don’t have a car, and after my first encounter with Cortland public transportation, I was looking forward to the next opportunity to ride the bus.
