Move to the city

Why should you move to a city?

To combat climate change.

Really? I thought moving to the country was the “greener” thing to do.

Not if you have to commute to a job 20 miles away.

This is an idea espoused in several recent books including “Green Metropolis.” Another book, “Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time” by Jeff Speck was excerpted in this article on Salon.com.

Speck gives some convincing arguments in favor of denser cities and walkable neighborhoods and how this is the only way towards a more sustainable future. And it is being done in many cities across the planet, just not so much in the United States.

It’s a fascinating article. I have read “Green Metropolis.” Speck’s book is now on my must-read list.
