Gateway project – the public chimes in

Last night the City of Cortland and C&S Companies of Syracuse conducted a public forum on the Gateway project. How do we redesign the entranceway to our city and the corridor that leads to downtown? How do we encourage people who stop at McDonalds, Friendly’s or the gas station to venture a little bit further and become acquainted with our downtown and other areas of our city?

People attending the forum were introduced to the project and got to see what the consultants and the local steering committee have been working on.

There were some really neat designs displayed that would allow for a median down the center of Clinton Avenue and two bike lanes on either side. Other ideas were floated such as an archway sign (or two) over the bridge near Riverside Plaza. The attendees were allowed to vote on their favorite designs.

There will be another opportunity for the public to weigh in. If you are interested in how we can make our city more memorable to visitors, encouraging more business throughout the community, you should try and attend the next meeting.
