What’s going on with handicapped parking hang tags?

Who knew? In some cities the abuse of the handicapped parking permits is a big problem. In Los Angeles in 2010 more than 80% of the vehicles in a 10 block radius of downtown had a handicapped parking permit.

Some cities have a pricing program for parking and allow vehicles with handicapped parking permits to park for free. So of course this is costing these cities a substantial amount of revenue.

But more important than this is that the people who really are disabled may not be able to find a place to park.

Enforcing the law is not an easy thing to do. So two researchers have made a proposal to eliminate them.

How would that work? Read all about it – “The Case for Eliminating Disable Parking Placards.”
