The worst drivers

As you may have guessed, the worst drivers are the 16 and 17 year olds and the elderly drivers.

Some states have instituted graduated licensing laws for teens. According to this Consumer Reports article, teen traffic fatalities have decreased 62 percent since 1975 in large part due to these new laws.

But what can we do about the older driver? This is a very sensitive topic. No one wants to admit that they can’t drive especially when there might be few other options.

“If we’re ever going to solve the aging mobility problem, we need to have better alternatives for people,” Eby says. “It can’t always fall to the personal vehicle.” David Eby, a research scientist at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, says that most states are unprepared for the waves of baby boomers.
