Cars that communicate

I’ve posted before about new technology that allows cars to communicate with each other. Now the U.S. Department of Transportation and the University of Michigan are teaming up in a year-long, $25 million project that will hopefully lead to fewer car crashes.

Even though cars have gotten safer over the years, still 32,000 people died in car crashes last year.

“Wireless devices will allow the vehicles to send signals to each other, warning their drivers of potential dangers such as stopped traffic or cars that might be blowing through a red light. They can even get traffic lights to turn green if no cars are coming the other way.”

Wouldn’t that be grand?
