Commuting to Tompkins County

Chances are if you are not commuting to Tompkins County you know someone who does.

According to our recent Regional Transportation Study report, more than 3200 people commute to Tompkins County from Cortland County.

And how do you suppose that most of them get there?

Some take the Cornell Commuter bus that Cortland Transit provides. Others drive to TC3 and pick up the TCAT buses. But most drive, and most drive alone.

Did you know that there are two programs that can help you share the ride with others and share the cost?

Zimride Tompkins is a website that matches people looking for rides to/from Tompkins County with people offering rides. There are more than 300 members registered. Even ride sharing once a week can save you $50 a month in fuel costs.

Or maybe there are several people that work at the same place that want to start a vanpool. A vanpool is a group of 5 to 14 people who commute together on a regular basis in a commuter van.  TCAT offers a community vanpool program that can help you set one up.

Isn’t it time to rethink your drive?
