I-81 through Syracuse

What’s to be done with I-81 through Syracuse?

Last year more than 1,000 people offered their opinions to state DOT officials about what they would like to see, Marnie Eisenstadt reports in the Post-Standard this morning.

Next week will be a final opportunity for the public to voice their opinions before a decision is made.

Some of the options as reported in The Post-Standard:

* Replace the road surface without fixing any of the interchanges or the exits.

* Rebuild the elevated section of road, keeping it elevated but changing the exits and the curves.

* Build a tunnel or get rid of the interstate completely to make an urban boulevard.

* Do nothing and keep fixing the holes.

What would you like to see? If you would like more information and/or offer your opinion state DOT officials will be at the Oncenter ballroom in Syracuse next Wednesday, May 9 from 2 pm – 8 pm.

This could be transformative for Syracuse. Personally, as I’ve mentioned before, I would like to see the elevated portion come down.
