Rearview cameras in all cars

The New York Times reported yesterday that this week federal regulators will be announcing that automakers will be required to put rearview cameras in all cars by 2014.

Did you know:

Two children die and 50 are injured every week when someone backs over them in a car.

More than 2/3 of the time a parent or close relative is behind the wheel.

It will cost about $160-$200 per vehicle.

228 people of all ages die each year, more than 17,000 injured when someone backs into them.

62 children could fit behind a large SUV without being visible to the driver in any of the mirrors.

For the 2012 models, 45% of cars already offer the cameras as standard equipment.
