Food travels too

“The average morsel of food sees more of America than the farmer who grows it, traveling fifteen hundred miles from field to fork… It takes fifteen calories of energy to put one calorie on the table, and four of those are in transportation.”

– Joel Salatin in “Folks, This Ain’t Normal: A Farmer’s Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World.”

Salatin’s book is the first book in Sustainable Cortland’s Soup & Sustenance book discussion series. Come to the Beard Bldg., 9 Main Street in downtown Cortland, next Thursday (Jan. 26)  evening at 6 p.m. and enjoy a light dinner and some lively discussion.
