How much?

Just in case you think transportation is not a big deal, here are some startling statistics from a recent Pew Center on the State report:

* States spent an estimated $131 billion on transportation in fiscal year 2010.

* New York State spent an estimated $7.88 billion in fiscal year 2010.

So what did we get for all this money? Well, it depends on what state you’re in.

The report, “Measuring Transportation Investments: The Road to Results”  by the Pew Center on the States and the Rockefeller Foundation found major differences among the states.

New York State is actually one of the states leading the way in safety, mobility (yay!), environmental stewardship and infrastructure preservation. We have mixed results in jobs/commerce and access. Overall, New York is one of 19 states with mixed results.
